Crucial Recruiting is partnering with a venture-backed data intelligence company building the knowledge layer that powers a widely used platform for venture investors. Two teams sit behind the product: one ingests fragmented, unstructured sources into a structured knowledge graph covering startups, investors and people, and runs an agentic research system on top of it; the other builds the deal management and system of record that investment teams work in every day.

About the Opportunity

This is a backend-weighted product engineering seat on a small team where the data problem is the product. You will work across a large, messy, real-world dataset and the systems that turn it into something people make decisions with. It suits an engineer who wants the hard data and systems work but still cares what the user is actually trying to do with the answer.

What You'll Do

Backend & Data

• Build and scale the services that ingest fragmented, unstructured sources into a structured knowledge graph
• Work directly on large-scale data pipelines and the systems that keep the graph accurate
• Design and implement GraphQL APIs over large underlying data sources

Product Surface

• Ship the frontend that exposes this work to users, roughly a third of the role
• Contribute to deal management and system-of-record workflows that sync with customer CRMs

Applied AI

• Contribute to an agentic research system operating over the knowledge graph

What We're Looking For

• 5-8 years of professional software engineering experience with clear title progression, engineer to senior to lead
• Strong Go, alongside Python, GraphQL and React. Go is the differentiator on this search
• Backend-weighted full-stack, roughly 70% backend and 30% frontend
• Real experience working with large volumes of data, ideally on a data platform or CRM-type product
• A background at high-growth, venture-backed startups
• A CS or related technical degree
• Able to work from the New York office three days a week

Strongly Preferred

• You have designed and implemented GraphQL APIs on top of large data sources
• Customer- and product-centric thinking: you can explain what problem you solved and for whom
• Genuine interest in venture tooling and startup data
• High energy and a strong communicator with technical and non-technical audiences alike

Technical Environment

• Go and Python on the backend
• GraphQL APIs over a large structured knowledge graph
• React on the frontend
• An agentic research system built on top of the data layer

• Compensation: $180,000-$220,000 base plus competitive equity
