Crucial Recruiting is partnering with an established, family-owned professional Medicaid planning and application-support company that works directly with individuals and families to secure long-term care benefits. The team is dedicated to guiding each client through the entire application process to a successful approval.
About the Role
The Medicaid Team Lead oversees the cases and people management of a team of Eligibility & Application Support Specialists and Administrative Assistants. You will foster a high-performance team, ensure quality of work, and ensure the team hits monthly goals for case submissions and closures, while supporting Specialists on cases and client escalations. The ideal candidate has significant experience in small-team leadership, goal setting, performance management, and customer service in a professional services setting, and is familiar with the Medicaid planning process, eligibility, and the strategies used to achieve results.
Responsibilities
- Directly oversee a team of 3–4 people, including interviewing and hiring for replacements
- Assess and develop employees through continuous training and mentoring; model leadership behaviors and effective delegation
- Ensure efficient management of the team and client caseload
- Partner with the Director of Medicaid Teams on monthly, quarterly, and annual performance reviews; address disciplinary issues and issue Performance Improvement Plans when appropriate, with follow-up and evaluation
- Work with the Sr. Manager of Medicaid Teams to evaluate team bandwidth and delegation
- Learn and research federal and state Medicaid LTC regulations and eligibility guidelines
- Evaluate cases to facilitate customized eligibility planning strategies for each client
- Advise Specialists so applications are processed accurately within required timelines; resolve escalated issues from the application process
- Hold regular team and 1:1 meetings; keep staff updated on process and policy changes
- Respond promptly to client questions and concerns; follow company data-security policies
- Validate biweekly time cards; stay proficient with company productivity tools (CRM, Google Suite, PDF editor)
- Use tracking systems to report data-driven progress; review monthly productivity reports with the Sr. Manager
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; English fluency with professional written and verbal communication
- Minimum 3 years in a supervisory role with people-management experience; skilled at developing and training direct reports
- Working knowledge of long-term Medicaid, including processing applications and a thorough understanding of Medicaid LTC eligibility rules
- Ability to think strategically and contribute to process/system improvements
- Understanding of financial assets (IRAs, life insurance, annuities, trusts); comfortable analyzing financial data via spreadsheets
- Complex problem-solving and process-improvement experience; strong planning and organizational skills
- Collaborative, self-aware, and open to feedback; a responsible self-starter who keeps deadlines
- Experience with file/document management; proficient in Google Suite (especially Sheets) and PDF editing software
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional background in the Medicaid long-term-care industry; hands-on case-management experience
- Experience in a fully remote environment using cloud-based tools; experience with a CRM or project-management database and generating reports from it
